Thanks to the high level of skills of its engineers and designers it has been able to play an authoritative role in international projects for development of fourth-generation nuclear technology.
The roles covered by DFGE and the activities it carries out are listed below:
In the 6th European Framework Programme
- Technical coordination of the European Lead-cooled SYstem (ELSY) project.
- Participation in the "EUROpean research programme for the TRANSmutation of High Level Nuclear Waste in an Accelerator Driven System" (EUROTRANS).
For the 7th European Framework Programme.
- Participation in the tender for a European Collaborative Project for the "Establishment of a Central Design Team (CDT) for a fast-spectrum transmutation device".
- Participation in the tender for the "Large-scale Integration Project for a European Sodium Fast Reactor (ESFR)".
In addition:
- Participation in the European platform for development of "Sustainable Nuclear Energy".
- Participation in the programme agreement between the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and ENEA for development of the technology for lead-cooled reactors.
- Participation with Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), ENEA and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the "Technology Pilot Plant" for a lead-cooled fast reactor.
